ARPIT (Annual Refresher Programme in Teaching)

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) launched the online Annual Refresher Programme in Teaching (ARPIT) on November 13, 2018. ARPIT is a unique initiative aimed at providing online professional development opportunities to 1.5 million higher education faculty members in India. The program is conducted through the MOOCs platform called SWAYAM.

In the first instance, the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the ARPIT test on March 30, 2019, covering 66 disciplines. Subsequently, 48 discipline-specific National Resource Centres (NRCs) were identified by the MHRD. These NRCs have Course Coordinators who develop online training material, focusing on the latest developments in their respective disciplines. The training material is uploaded and made available through the SWAYAM platform.

ARPIT is an ongoing exercise, with NRCs continuously developing new refresher modules in their designated disciplines every year. This ensures that faculty members have access to updated and relevant training materials.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has recognized ARPIT as a refresher course for the career advancement of faculty. In a letter dated December 3, 2018, the UGC notified the equivalence of ARPIT to a refresher course. This recognition acknowledges the value and importance of ARPIT in the professional growth of faculty members.

From September 2019 to January 2020, the second batch of ARPIT candidates, comprising 146,214 individuals, enrolled in the online SWAYAM MOOCs courses.

Key features and benefits of the ARPIT learning platform include:

1. Online Courses:

ARPIT offers a wide range of online courses on various subjects and topics related to teaching and pedagogy. These courses are developed by experts and experienced faculty members from renowned institutions across India.

2. Flexible Learning:

The courses on the ARPIT platform are self-paced, allowing learners to study at their own convenience and pace. This flexibility enables educators to balance their professional commitments with their learning objectives.

3. Quality Content:

The course content on the ARPIT platform is designed to provide in-depth knowledge and practical insights into effective teaching methodologies. The content is regularly updated to align with the latest advancements in the field of education.

4. Interactive Learning:

The platform offers interactive learning materials, including video lectures, readings, assignments, quizzes, and discussion forums. These features promote active engagement and encourage collaborative learning among participants.

5. Certification:

Upon successful completion of an ARPIT course, participants receive a certificate from the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The certificate can be a valuable addition to the professional profile of educators and can enhance their career prospects.

6. Free of Cost:

The ARPIT platform and its courses are offered free of cost, making it accessible to a wide range of educators across India. This initiative aims to promote continuous professional development and improve the quality of higher education in the country.
